Holistic  Back Massage

What Is Holistic Body Massage?

The healing power of touch has for many centuries, been used to eleviate pain. Massage is one of the most ancient forms of healing. The first writings on massage showed up around 2000 BC. The ancient Greeks and Romans used massage to maintain health and promote healing and Egyptian tombs depicate drawings of people receiving massage or physicians giving massage.  A mothers instinct  is to ‘rub’ the pain away following their child's fall, or stroke a child's arm to comfort them when they are upset.  The healing power of touch has many benefits.

People use massage therapy for a variety of health-related conditions and to enhance their health and wellness. Through healing touch, massage therapists provide a lot of people, both young and old, with a sense of connection, nurturing, and care.

Modern massage is based on the techniques developed by Per Henrick Ling (1776-1839) a physiologist and fencing master.  He was from Sweden and massage techniques are still referred to as ‘Swedish Massage’ because of his influence. He developed a system of  movements which he found helpful for improving his health and maintaining his physical condition and are used today:  effluerage, petrosage, tapotement, percussion etc.

Massage is the use of hands, or mechanical means, to manipulate the soft tissues of the body, particularly muscles.  It can be used for relaxation, stimulation or rehabilitation of the whole body or part of it.  It promotes suppleness of the muscles, improves circulation and reduces stress.

Massage is beneficial to all body systems and is a natural and effective way to treat both physical conditions and psychological problems

What Does The Treatment Involve?

Massage has an immediate local and  physiological effect on the part of the body being worked and it also affects the whole body through stimulation and relaxation of the nerves.  It has physiological and psychological benefits and can affect all of the body systems in a positive way.  Massage involves a series of strokes from gentle and relaxing to stimulating and invigorating, depending on the clients wishes.

Massage is carried out in a warm room where you will lie on a comfortable massage bed with your lower underwear garments on.  The therapist will be totally professional in their manner and your privacy will be respected at all times; the only part of your body to be exposed is the area the therapist is massaging.  The rest of your body will be covered with towels. Aromatherapy massage oils will be used to encourage a relaxing treatment.  Creams can be used if preferred.

Prior to treatment your medical history will be discussed in total confidence with your therapist.

Before arriving for a treatment, please ensure you have showered and you are wearing a clean change of underwear.
